Yeah yeah.. you're probably thinking "HUH?!" What's wrong with Christian Discussions?! Well, the answer is nothing actually. Nothing but the Facebook page that is titled as such. Just the simple fact that it keeps me awake discussing and sometimes arguing and sometimes dying of laughter until somewhere between the hours of 11pm and 4am. It's like a case of going for sauna at a Coponen or Sauvola household gone bad. And you visit EVERY SINGLE NIGHT! And most of the time, all day long besides, in between all the rest of the stuff you do all the rest of the day long. I've heard reports* of burnt food, dead cats, boiled over pots of water, re-fried muffins and jellied donuts molded to the contours of your computer keyboard because you forgot you were eating when you went to see who had commented and what they had said, because while you were standing in the kitchen you saw the little red number flash up at the top of your screen and you HAD to go see what it was saying.
*SOME of the above reports may be a slight exaggeration.*
You meet new people you've never even heard of and you re-meet people you used to know and you find new people that know you but you have no idea who they are and you all sit there around one or four of the top posts that is one of your bandwagons, because you saw that someone else was discussing something on your pet wagon so you hopped on and pretty soon you and 14 other people are on the same wagon and you're all typing at the top of your lungs, hovering over the like button and, depending on the subject, everybody might even be agreeing with each other at the top of their lungs.
You find people that know nothing about anything and you find people who know everything about something. In the middle of the two are the inevitable folks who know everything about all of it and the ones who know nothing about any of it and they are both usually just as loud. That's when it gets interesting. Especially when most of you are pretty much the same nationality and you discover that some people are only there to out stubborn the last one and that some people are only there to see which one of the commenters is a whack job and which ones are decent. Just tonight we got accused of having SISU for the simple reason we're still going on a thread that was started 24 hours ago.
In case people didn't know this, I'll clue you in. When you start a discussion online, it's gonna stay on track for about 26.3 comments. Then it's gonna start spiderwebbing. And unless you can keep slapping the reins and steering the train you're gonna end up arguing about kettles of fish when you started earnestly talking about modest apparel. Doesn't help any when some people try to get by with skimming over 159 of the comments and then replying without saying who they're replying to. The conversation ends up sounding like this:
George: "I don't like cats."
Sheila: "Yeah, you're probably one of those people who should be dropped out in the desert and abandoned so you find out what it's like when you treat animals like that."
George: "I never said I dropped any animals off on the side of the road! Where'd you get that from?!"
Irene: "DON'T JUDGE! DON'T JUDGE!! She probably feels bad that her dog got a haircut when it looked under the lawnmower when it was running to see if the blades were turning!"
Sally May: *posts an article she found on google about the percentage rate of abandoned animals in the US* "THIS is why people like George shouldn't be allowed to HAVE any animals!"
George: "WHAT?!"
Albertine: "Don't go acting all innocent!"
Genevieve: "It absolutely breaks my heart to see people act like this about animals when there's all those starving children in Africa! You should all be ashamed of yourselves!"
Alice: "Whoa lady. You better be careful if you're gonna accuse George of cutting off the food supply to the Aborigines!"
Moderator of the page: "Can you please talk a little more nicely to each other?"
Sally May: "Why is it that as soon as you start hearing truth you hideous page moderators have to come along and start hating?!"
Howard: "Yeah, I know what you mean, I don't like cats either."
Everyone on the page but George: "WHO on EARTH is talking about CATS?!"
Yeah... pretty much sums it up some days. I LOVE that page!!
